Well, if you're arriving at Gielinor you're probably going through Gielinor's World Gate. There's nothing terribly dangerous between Gielinor and Ardougne. The only thing you should be concerned about is a group of hobgoblins. However, you can steer clear of the hobgoblins by first going towards those gates that lead to the Tree Gnome Stronghold as well following the fenceline in the orchard of apples. From there, it's a straight shot to Ardy with no creatures.

If you are you're in Ardy it is possible to get a job on the streets to save enough money for a boat trip to Taverley. Personally, I'd prefer Catherby over Taverley because a seaside farming or fishing village is an ideal spot to settle in. The smell of fish can be avoided by living further into the interior, close to the farming area. Keep in mind that scale theory is a thing and in a real-life Gielinor would be plenty of space between the farmlands in Catherby and the coastline of Catherby.

It's always short boat rides to Taverley to see the Druids and stock up on your "herb" things. Catherby gives you a better access to the Kandarin region generally, without having to traverse White Wolf Mountain or needing to pay for an excursion every time. There are many options and better opportunities if you have easy access to the entire Kandarin area.

Catherby will also be safer because Taverley is located in a dangerous places such as an active warzone, a dungeon full of dangerous creatures along with a mountain with deadly wolves on it villages populated by goblins as well as a temple that is home to crazy religious fanatics. If you need to leave the city, your choices are small.

Catherby however is protected by the same mountain which holds Taverley within. Catherby has no massive dangers nearby to worry about. The only threat could be the renegade knights and the sorceress who has them at Keep Le Faye but their disagreement has to do not with Camelot as well as King Arthur but not Catherby.

Ultimately, the safest and most relaxing way of life would be to get rich and live as an upper-class citizen in one of the main cities. East Ardougne or Falador would most likely be the best choice, but Varrock would be fine for as long as you avoid the sketchier parts of the city. Making money is the tough part, however I think your best chance of doing that will be in Kandarin since it's one of the least danger-prone of the three main human kingdoms.
